Lamar Deshawn Young, known affectionately to his friends and family as Lamar, passed away on November 29, 2023, in Kannapolis, NC. He was a cherished soul, taken from this world all too soon at the age of 33. Born on June 12, 1990, in Richmond, CA, Lamar was a beacon of resilience and joy throughout his life.
Lamar's early years were marked by the tragic loss of his mother, which imprinted on him a profound sense of strength and independence. His father's subsequent passing, as well as the more recent losses of his beloved Great Aunt Phyllis, who played a pivotal role in his upbringing, and his brother Michael Reid, who passed in March of this year, were hardships that Lamar faced with remarkable grace and fortitude. Through these adversities, Lamar found guidance and support from his Great Uncle Jeffrey, who stepped in to fill the void, raising him as his own son and becoming a central figure in his life.
An alumnus of Cabarrus County Schools, Lamar carried with him the lessons and friendships he made there throughout his life. He was a valued employee at Factory Motor Parts, where his dedication and hard work were well recognized by his colleagues and superiors. His professional life was a testament to his reliability and commitment to excellence in all his endeavors.
Lamar's personal life was filled with passions that spoke to the depth of his character. A gifted cook, he found solace and expression in the culinary arts, often delighting friends and family with his delicious creations. His love for old school music was another facet of his vibrant personality, providing a soundtrack to the many cherished moments he shared with those around him.
His presence was a source of comfort and inspiration to all who knew him. Lamar's infectious laughter, unwavering loyalty, and the genuine care he invested in his relationships will be deeply missed. He was a man who loved deeply, lived passionately, and despite the brevity of his time on earth, left an indelible mark on the hearts of many.
Lamar is survived by his Great Uncle Jeffrey Hampton, who will continue to honor his memory by living out the values they shared. Surviving siblings include Tashame Smith, Monika Smith, Ricky Young, Christina Collor, and Alexis Reid. Maternal grandfather Ellis McClendon, aunts, uncles, and lots of cousins will have fond memories of their times with Lamar. Though his journey on earth has concluded, the legacy of his spirit—a tapestry woven with threads of love, resilience, and joy—will endure in the stories and memories he leaves behind.
As we bid farewell to Lamar Deshawn Young, we reflect on a life that, while marked by periods of sorrow, shone brightly with the light of his enduring positivity. His life's narrative is a poignant reminder of the impact one individual can have on the world around them, through simple acts of kindness, an unwavering zest for life, and the courage to face each day with hope.
